The Oldest Road Classic Cycle Race In South Africa
The Amashova Durban Classic, now in its 37th year, is South Africa’s oldest ‘classic’ cycling race. It all began in 1986 when veteran Springbok Cyclist Dave Wiseman, along with his friend Tony McMillian, had a dream of organizing a bicycle race on the route of the world-famous Comrades Marathon. Their vision became a reality, and over the years, the race has grown in popularity.
Thanks to continuous improvements in the race route, road closures, increasing participation, and the support of top sponsors, the ‘Shova’ has become one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most beloved and prominent cycling events.
