The Mercury Wine Week 2014

Wine enthusiasts looking to broaden their knowledge with tasting and professional masterclasses can get ready for the 36th annual Mercury Wine Week, taking place at SUNCOAST from 27 to 29 August.

This year’s event brings together 80 exhibitors and literally hundreds of new wines! These are available for sipping, comparing and purchasing. There has been a dynamic shift in the Grindrod Wine Theatre with three sessions each evening, where winemakers will have a 15-minute platform to showcase their products before a private audience in an intimate and information-rich setting.

Entry to the theatre is included in the ticket price, but each session will be limited to a first-come, first-serve basis for a maximum of 30 people. The session promises to add a dimension to the wine-tasting and knowledge sharing experience.

Marketing Manager at SUNCOAST, Louise Howell said “this highly anticipated wine show has different    exciting elements! Connoisseurs and novices can expect to be entertained while gaining knowledge”.

More broadly, the show guarantees wine enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with winemakers, distributors and estate representatives, to taste the new vintages making their appearances on bottle store shelves and stock up their cellars.

There are both stalwarts and newbies attending this year’s event from Anura to Zevenwacht. Among the newer faces are Bosman Family Vineyards, Earthbound, Ghost Corner, Laibach, Oneiric, Rijk’s and Tokara, while the banners fly high for the returns of Fairview (with their award-winning cheeses), KWV, Haute Cabriere, Meerlust and Raka to mention just a few.

Tickets cost R100 per person or R150 for a two-night pass for Wednesday and Thursday nights, available via Computicket or at the door, patrons gain entrance from 5:30pm.
