Sunday Beats – Thulile Zama

Celebrating Women’s Month at Suncoast’s Sunday Beats!

It’s Women’s month and in celebration of that, Sunday Beats at SUNCOAST presents another dynamic woman entertainer on Sunday 20th August!

The charming and charismatic Thulile Zama and her all-female contemporary jazz band, Heels Over Head, will be bringing pure girl power to the stage, with everything from light popular jazz and afro, to her spin on well-loved covers.

The popular Durban vocalist is a sought after voice on the jazz circuit, both locally and as far afield as Swaziland, Germany and the USA. Her gigs have included performances on national television (including SABC 3’s Top Billing) and she is kept busy with a variety of corporate events. Zama also heads the Makeba Tribute Band which performs tribute concerts to Mama Africa around the country.

Zama has honed her knowledge of music, not just at venues around the city and beyond, but academically as well and she holds a BA Degree in music from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN). As a lover of music and the performing arts, Zama is also the Concert Coordinator at UKZN’s Centre for Jazz and Popular Music, a vibrant performance and workshop venue on campus.

Zama will be joined on the Sunday Beats stage by her fellow band-members which include skilled drummer/percussionist, Rebekah Doty, accomplished pianist Taryn Kasaval and bassist Lee Ngidi.

“Thulile Zama and her all-girl band will be bringing a fresh, popular sound to get everyone up and moving to the beat. Her music is the perfect fit for celebrating Women’s Month,” says SUNCOAST Marketing Manager, Louise Howell.

Zama’s performance starts at 14h00 and is free to the public.
