Sunday Beats – 5th Season

It’s all-out jazz season with 5th Season at Suncoast!

One of Durban’s favourite jazz bands 5th Season will once again be performing at SUNCOAST’s free monthly musical sessions, Sunday Beats on 14 May 2017 – as part of SUNCOAST’s Mother’s Day celebrations.

An already established jazz act within KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), 5th Season is a four-piece band that was founded back in 2010. Brothers Devon & Brayden Hore (drummer & bassist) initially teamed up with guitarist Mthunzi Mchunu when they were all studying at UKZN’s Centre for Jazz & Popular Music. The trio was later joined by the versatile and sensational vocalist, Janice Joseph before releasing their debut album titled ‘Symmetry’.

“We are back at SUNCOAST on Mother’s Day,” says Devon Hore. “Make sure to bring your mom, aunt, sister, and everyone else! We have some favourites from our album along with other singles that we have put together that we are sure you will all enjoy! ”

The ethnically diverse band has performed at various well-known private functions and festivals in KZN and around South Africa. Their musical influence and passion for ballads, swing, smooth and African jazz – along with a sprinkle of commercial/pop music, have seen them develop a loyal and well-supported following.

“5th Season is one of the Durban bands that has kept jazz alive in Durban,” says SUNCOAST Marketing Manager, Louise Howell. “Nowadays we see a whole host of jazz bands in the city and SUNCOAST is delighted to provide a venue for these musicians. It also speaks to the importance and relevance of jazz in our everyday lives. Spoil Mum this Mother’s Day by bringing her and the entire family down to SUNCOAST for this free performance it’s a thank you to all mothers out there.”
