Suncoast Casino wins Slots Host Championship
Tsogo Sun’s best of the best slots hosts is Preya Autar from Suncoast Casino in Kwazulu-Natal! She took first place in the group’s fifth annual Slots Host Championship, which took place at Silverstar Casino in Mogale City, Krugersdorp. The Championship recognises the great value that slots hosts bring to the group in what tends to be the busiest area in the casino.
Says Steve Hight, Tsogo Sun’s Director of Gaming, “We’re delighted that a host from one of our large coastal casinos took top spot as it highlights that every one of our slots hosts throughout the group has the opportunity to shine. Our slots hosts are stars on the casino floor, constantly interacting with our customers and ensuring entertaining experiences. This competition is aimed at recognising their skills and rewarding the top achievers. It’s a competition that highlights our group-wide commitment to talent management and ensuring high levels of customer service.”
Hight also thanked Aruze Gaming for their involvement in the finals. They formed part of the judging panel, donated prizes, provided slots for the competition simulations, provided demo games for the waiting finalists, and other items to ensure the success of the event.
Preya Autar won R10,000; Suericka Cordier form Hemingway’s Casino came second, winning R5,000; Dudu Mabasa from Gold Reef City won R3,000 for third place; and Avikar Mahabeer from Suncoast Casino and Zakariah Saleh from Golden Horse Casino came joint fourth, winning R1,000 each.
Eighteen slots hosts participated in the finals – two finalists from each of the four big casinos and one each from the small units – having come through the unit competitions that included live simulations and assessments, as well as technical and non-technical questions. At the finals, the 18 contestants were evaluated by technical and non-technical judges in a series of simulated scenarios on customer service, dispute resolution and technical skills. The top five then presented in front of colleagues, management, and head office delegates, and were marked on their presentations by a panel of judges.
Preya joined the Suncoast slots team in 2008. Her positive, upbeat attitude and patience with customers is unparalleled, and it is because of these traits that she is often called on to mentor new employees. Her bubbly cheerful persona has won her the nickname of “Bubbles” to the Slots team as well as the rest of the unit. We are extremely proud of Preya’s achievement and wish her great success for the future.
Riaan Swart, GM of Aruze Gaming, was extremely impressed with the high standard of the slots hosts in the competition. “We have been involved in this competition for about five years now and have seen the standard improve year on year. Clearly these hosts, who make a vital difference to players’ experiences on the slots floor, are constantly being mentored and trained by Tsogo Sun.”
Swart says Preya Autar made a worthy winner. “She came across as humble, passionate and very confident. We wish her well in her career.” He adds, “Aruze Gaming was proud to be associated with this championship – and to be given the opportunity to give back to these hard-working young hosts.”
