Come Out and Run

Durban’s Golden Mile is a hub of activity every day with runners, walkers, cyclists and even rollerbladers.

The action hots up on weekends when fun and competitive races take place. SUNCOAST plays host to a number of triathlons and cycle tours – the biggest of which included the 70.3 Iron Man in July and the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic Cycle Race in October.

Casual joggers and runners are also catered for with the North Beach Parkrun every Saturday morning at 8am on the promenade in front of the SUNCOAST amphitheatre.

“SUNCOAST is becoming quite a fitness destination,” said Suncoast Marketing Manager, Louise Howell. “The North Beach Parkrun is one of many held around the world and is becoming increasingly popular with over 1300 runners taking part every Saturday. There is great camaraderie and energy with runners and walkers of varying fitness levels supporting each other every week.

“Registration can be done online and participation is free.  It has the added benefit of serving to track your 5-km time and a great monitoring tool of your fitness progress. The route along the promenade is ideal for time trials as it is flat and wide – plus the view is hard to beat!”

As a further bonus, Parkrun members (when they show their registration card) and cyclists (between 4.30am and 7am – if the bike is on the vehicle) get free entrance to SUNCOAST’s secure parking!

Discovery Vitality members who take part are awarded 500 points per run. Runners can also take advantage of the great offering of food outlets at SUNCOAST such as Café Vigour, Wimpy, Spur and much much more.
