The Easter long weekend is finally here! And we all look forward to the traditional hot cross buns. With the sweetness of cinnamon sugar and raisins, these buns are irresistible.
Tsogo Sun’s SunSquare Suncoast and Suncoast Towers is offering an authentic Durban variety with the Imzanzi Chilli Choc Hot Cross Bun. Guests can look forward to strong flavours and spices depicting Durban’s melting pot of cultures.
While the texture of the bun remains true to its originality, the filling is a blend of dried fruit and pecan nuts combined with chilli and resulting in a burst of variety in flavour. The topping is a combination of melted chocolate and a hint of chilli flakes to achieve a delicate balance between savoury and sweet, delighting the palette with gentle heat but not overpowering.
Created by sous chef Sandren Govender, the Mzanzi chilli hot cross bun was inspired by the rich cultures of the city and its love for chilli.
“We are all familiar with the traditional bun but I was determined to add a little difference that guests would appreciate. We got thinking in the kitchen on what’s the best way to indulge in our favourite of the Easter traditions, with a local twist,” said Govender.
He added that the touch of chilli was the perfect ingredient to give the bun a “Durban East Coast flavour”.
Guests at the hotel this Easter will be welcomed and served chef Govender’s chilli delight along with a delectable spread of drinks and snacks.
And to make their welcome even more fanciful, the festive spirit will greet guests in the lobby where they are bound to be marvelled by an intricate Easter display inspired by Beatrix Potter characters. Guests will be taken on a whimsical journey to Peter Rabbits wonderland surrounded by bright yellow blooms and traditional Easter eggs.
Guests can also take advantage of the Jeera buffet which boasts authentic Durban Indian cuisine from Thursday to Sunday this week and costs R225 per person. Executive chef Attie Schultz has included a “special menu” for the month of April where dishes including duck, lamb shank and seafood specialities will be served.
