CANSA Shavathon

Say it with your head!

Are you brave enough to shed your locks to show solidarity for cancer survivors? If not, add a bit of colour – not the permanent kind – when you support the 2016 CANSA Shavathon.

The CANSA Shavathon team will be at SUNCOAST on Saturday and Sunday (27 and 28 February 2016) between 09h00 and 14h00 each day.

“The event is well supported around the country and SUNCOAST is pleased to be a part of the nationwide activities,” says Louise Howell, Marketing Manager at SUNCOAST.

“Management and staff will be participating on Friday, 26 February 2016,” Louise adds.

The event offers an opportunity for SUNCOAST employees to reflect on how they have been affected by the disease and to encourage colleagues who may be currently fighting the disease or be in remission.

“We will also be encouraging our guests to participate by shaving their head, spraying their locks with a bright colour or stenciling their hair! And of course, making a donation at the same time.”

Make your statement and donate for a worthy cause. Those wishing to take part are requested to pay a R 50 donation fee, while children under 12 need only pay a R 25 donation fee.

It will be heartwarming – for those with longer hair – to know that if they decide to make the chop and donate their locks, the hair will be sent to a wig manufacturer who creates wigs from human hair for cancer survivors who lose their hair during treatment.

Funds raised at the Shavathon events assist CANSA in continuing its care and support programmes to those affected by cancer and helps provide educational material containing information on how to reduce the risk of cancer. Access – via cancer-screening programmes – is also provided to help in the early detection of cancer.
