Belly Dancing at Suncoast

These Belly-Dancing Hips don’t lie at Suncoast!

Visitors to the Amphitheatre in front of SUNCOAST may think they have wandered into an Arabian Kasbah or souk on Saturday afternoon, 29 July 2017, when the first monthly Belly Dancing session takes the stage.
All Women are invited to take part in these sessions which will include belly-dancing demonstrations, audience participation and learning some of the hip-swaying moves.

Belly dancers from the Belly Divas Dance Studio in Morningside will be demonstrating and teaching the sensuous, provocative dance style to all who are fascinated in learning this ancient art.
“Belly dancing began as a fertility dance centuries ago in the Middle East, where groups of women would dance for each other, invoking the gods to grant fertility,” says Debbie Jooste of Belly Divas Dance Studio.

“It progressed from there and was also used in private harems to entertain sultans and kings. Belly dance is now danced throughout the world in a wide variety of different styles but the common denominator remains ‘sisterhood’.”

Dancers may use various props, such as swords, veils, shawls, candles and even trays balancing lighted candles on their heads!

“The Amphitheatre is the perfect venue for watching the dancers and learning the steps of this beautiful art,” says Jooste.

Women of all ages can take part and it doesn’t matter whether you are a seasoned dancer or never swayed your hips before!

“Our monthly Salsa sessions are such a hit and we hope that our Belly Dancing sessions will be as popular.   Durban ladies, young and old should come along and enjoy learning the art of belly-dancing,” says SUNCOAST Marketing Manager, Louise Howell.

“It promises to be loads of fun, and just as entertaining for those who would just like to watch the dance styles being performed. Learning to dance with the props provided will add a fun element to the session.”
The first of these monthly hour-long sessions starts at 16h00 on Saturday, 29 July 2017 and it’s free.
