The Suncoast Classic, the latest installment in the International Federation of PGA Tours’ Sunshine Tour, gets underway in Durban this weekend and will kick off with a pro-am event, which sees a host of high profile personalities taking to the greens in four-balls with professional players from across the world.
The Suncoast Classic’s pro-am tournament will be held at Durban Country Club on Thursday, 21 October. Professional play then takes over from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 October, where top ranked golf players will battle it out on the undulating course for a chance at clinching up to R500,000 in prize money.
Sporting personalities participating in the pro-am this year include veteran surf-ski champion Oscar Chalupsky, South African Rugby Legends (SARLA) CEO John Allan, cricketer Shaun Pollock and rugby personalities Andre Snyman, Andre Joubert , Gary Teichmann and Wayne Fyvie.
Also teeing off are Trish Taylor, CEO of East Coast Radio; Jabu Mabuza, CEO of Tsogo Sun Gaming; Jesse Chellan, CEO of KZN Cricket Union, Gareth Tindall, PGA Tour Commissioner and Alberts Breedt, Managing Executive of Vodacom KZN. At a dinner and awards evening to be hosted after the pro-am leg on Thursday evening, headline sponsor Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World (SUNCOAST) will donate R20,000 from the proceeds of the tournament to its primary CSI beneficiary, Vukukhanye Community Upliftment Initiatives (Vukukhanye).
The money will be used for SUNCOAST’s bursary project with Vukukhanye, which sees disadvantaged children from the Chesterville community receive financial assistance for school and tertiary education.
SUNCOAST’s partnership with Vukukhanye also extends to the ‘Sport For All’ project, and hands-on support by SUNCOAST staff through mentorship, monthly outings and general assistance.
Says SUNCOAST executive director “The fact that we support Vukukhanye in this way is rooted in a desire to make a difference in the lives of thousands of needy children in the community of Chesterville,” he said. |
Vukukhanye addresses child and family welfare amid the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the historically disadvantaged area of Chesterville, Cato Manor.
SUNCOAST parent company Tsogo Sun Gaming has also forged links with another illustrious golf tournament, the Duke of Edinburgh Cup, which sees the group donating sizeable amounts each year to various charities looked after by its casino properties.
