Past Graduate 

Two years ago when I ventured into the working world and I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the Suncoast Graduate progamme. I knew on my first day, I knew I was involved with an exceptional and dynamic organization. I have worked in various facets of Finance  ranging from primary document control to the complexities of reporting. I also had a brief yet integral role in our Hospitality division.

I have grown in the last two years from an Undergraduate to an experienced and a value adding member of a truly exceptional finance team. The Graduate Programme has been excellent, I have been given the key elements ie training,development and mentoring which has been the cornerstone in my success in helping me carve out a reputation as a high achiever. I have won an Employee of the Month award in March 2009 and a Staff Year End award in 2009. The knowledge that I have gained over the past two years has assisted me in cementing a solid foundation on which to spring board my career and I hope to spiral my aspirations into the upper reaches of management and the executive sector of the Tsogo Sun Group.

I graduated from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, and first heard about Suncoast Casino at the annual varsity career presentations and I immediately applied for a position in the graduate programme offered at Suncoast Casino.
I have an undergraduate degree in Industrial Psychology and Sociology as well as Honours in Human Resources Management and have been working in the HR department since I started in September 2008 first as a graduate and in June 2009 I was made a permanent employee.

On campus you never think of the gambling industry as anything but an opportunity to make money and have fun. There is a lot more that happens behind the scenes, especially within HR. That is what was and still is beneficial about the graduate programme.

I am being mentored, as a permanent staff member at Suncoast; this is to assure that I am able to reach for the stars within the company. I am still judged through an individual performance agreement as I was as a graduate, which allows the mentors to ascertain where graduates and permanent employees need help and where they are flourishing. It really is a school of magic which focuses on the many practical aspects of the HR process from recruitment, training, industrial relations, administration and many other aspects of employee wellness.

As a graduate everything was hard as is anything done for the first time is hard. I had the support of a great team of people to help me through it all, and still are assisting me as everyday brings with it new and interesting challenges. This is why what I love most about my job is the spirit of teamwork involved in making Suncoast the best place to work for.
